（１）について興味深いのは、「診察券」が次のように詳細に述べられていることだ。A hospital card is a card which identifies you and your medical history. When you go to get your hospital card, take someone who speaks Japanese... Once you have the card, everything is sweet for the next time you go.
（２）については、ATMを使い現金を入手する方法が特に詳しい。Japan is a totally cash-based society, so don't expect to rely on credit cards. だからだ。日本でもクレジットカードが広く使用されているが、それでもスーパーなどでは現金で支払うのがふつうだ。ALTにとって、日本が現金社会に映るのも無理はないのかもしれない。
● 銀行：Most ATMs have an English guidance button but the services offered in English are limited.
● 郵便局：Post office ATMs have extensive English menus.
郵便サービスに関しては「ご不在届け連絡書」も詳説されている。仕事で昼間自宅を空けるALTはしばしばお世話になるサービスだからであろう。If you are not at home at the time of delivery..., you will be left a non-delivery notice informing you of when and where it can be picked up.もちろんこれだけでは、ALTは不在届けを手にしても、どうすればよいのか分からないだろう。日本で郵便物を受け取るのも大変だ。
